About the Course

A Nine-Week Journey Through Grief

How the Course Works

The Comfort of God in Grief is a structured, facilitator-led nine-week course designed to help people process the death of someone significant within the safety and support of a small group.

Rooted in Scripture, the course guides participants through Eight Relational Steps that help them bring their grief honestly before God, tell their story, engage with difficult questions, explore God’s redemptive story and discover how His comfort can shape their journey through loss.

Participants work through a beautiful and comforting Participant's Resource Manual as they reflect on their journey of grief in the light of God's Word.

Each week, participants have assigned preparation work to help them engage with the following week’s material. They also meet weekly with another participant with whom they are paired for mutual support.

A Relational Approach to Grief

At the heart of the course is a framework of Eight Relational Steps, developed by Jane Kratz to help participants process grief in relationship with God and with the support of others.

Across the nine weeks, participants are gently guided to bring their grief honestly before God and experience the value of prayer, community and shared comfort.

The steps are not intended as a rigid checklist, but as a relational framework that participants may revisit throughout their grief journey.

Why a Facilitator-Led Group?

The Comfort of God in Grief course is intentionally designed to be experienced in person, within a small and supportive group.

Grief can be isolating. The course creates a safe space in which participants can share honestly, listen to others, reflect on Scripture and receive the comfort and encouragement that comes through walking alongside one another.

Groups remain closed once the course begins, helping to build trust, consistency and a sense of safety over the nine-week journey.

Who Can Attend?

The course is for people grieving the death of a family member (including perinatal loss), friend or other significant person, whether the loss is recent or happened some time ago.

Participants do not need to be Christian, but they should be willing to engage with the Bible and be open to exploring grief within a Christian framework.
