Who we are

The Comfort of God in Grief website, janekratz.com, provides information about Jane Kratz’s Christian grief care course, course manuals and facilitator resources.

The person or organisation responsible for personal information collected through this website is:

Responsible party: Jane Kratz
Privacy contact: author@janekratz.com

This policy explains how we handle personal information in connection with the website and course administration.

Information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Your name, email address and telephone number.
Your church, organisation, location and facilitator role.
  • Information supplied when enquiring about manuals, requesting facilitator access or asking for support.
  • Order and delivery details where you purchase manuals directly from us.
  • Feedback and correspondence you choose to provide.
  • Technical information, such as your IP address, browser details and website activity, through hosting logs and website services.

You do not need to share your personal experience of bereavement simply to browse the website or enquire about course materials.

Please avoid including unnecessary medical information, detailed personal histories or information about other people in general enquiry forms.

How we use your information

We use information to respond to enquiries, arrange manual orders and delivery, manage facilitator access, provide requested support, review course feedback and maintain the website.

Required form fields will be identified. If you do not provide information needed to fulfil a request, we may be unable to process it. Optional information is your choice.

We process information on an appropriate lawful basis, including consent, fulfilling an agreement, legal obligations or legitimate interests where permitted.

Submitting an enquiry does not automatically subscribe you to promotional emails. Any marketing communications will follow applicable consent requirements and include a way to opt out.

Personal stories and sensitive information

Grief-related correspondence may reveal sensitive information, including health or religious beliefs. We limit its collection and use to what is necessary and legally permitted.

Please contact us before sending detailed sensitive information so that we can explain the appropriate process.

We seek separate permission before publishing identifiable testimonials, photographs, recordings or personal stories. Agreeing to receive support or submitting feedback does not, by itself, authorise public use of your story.

Google Forms and independently run courses

Some enquiries, applications and feedback are collected using Google Forms.

Facilitators may also make copies of participant registration templates for their own groups. Where a church or independent facilitator collects information through its own form, it is responsible for explaining how that information is handled.

Copying our registration template does not automatically send participant responses to Jane Kratz. Please check the form owner and privacy information before submitting your details.

Sharing information

We do not sell personal information.

Information may be shared, where necessary, with authorised people supporting course administration and providers of website hosting, maintenance, email, forms, document storage or delivery services.

We may also disclose information where legally required.

Access is limited to what is needed for the relevant purpose, and service providers handling information on our behalf must protect it appropriately.

External services and international processing

The website uses or links to services including Google Forms, YouTube and Amazon. Their own privacy policies apply to information they collect.

If you buy manuals through Amazon, your purchase is handled by Amazon under its own terms and privacy practices.

Some providers process information outside South Africa. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we take steps to meet POPIA’s applicable transfer requirements.

Cookies and embedded content

Website functionality and embedded third-party services may use cookies or similar technologies. Embedded videos and forms may communicate information about your browser or device to their providers when loaded or used.

You can manage cookies through your browser, although blocking them may affect some features.

Retention and security

We retain personal information only as long as necessary for its purpose or as required by law. Information no longer needed is securely deleted or de-identified.

We use reasonable organisational and technical safeguards. No online service is entirely risk-free. Where a security compromise requires notification, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected people as required.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal information, correction or deletion, object to processing, or withdraw consent where processing relies on it.

Withdrawal does not invalidate earlier lawful processing. Some information may need to be retained for legal reasons.

Contact the privacy contact above to exercise your rights. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

Children’s information

Parents, guardians and facilitators should contact us before submitting a child’s personal information. We will explain the applicable authorisation and safeguards before collecting it.

Complaints

You may contact us with any privacy concern.

You also have the right to complain directly to South Africa’s Information Regulator. Current complaint instructions are available at: https://inforegulator.org.za/complaints

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our services or information-handling practices change. The latest version will appear on this page with its updated date.
